WALL OF THE WORLD:

As new technologies emerge, the essence of ad agency expertise remains - big ideas.

Our highest-tech client, Americom Government Services, had an unusual request that had us thinking in new ways. AGS is a government supplier that provides satellite communications. In addition to branding services and advertising campaigns, AGS asked us for ideas on making their expansive, new conference room a jaw-dropping experience.

They had a wall — a big wall — they wished to adorn with a floo--to-ceiling world map that could be used to depict the positions of their satellite fleet. A very dynamic use of wall space, yet — what did we know about high-end interior design?

We saw this as a marketing assignment. The objective of the new AGS conference room was to make a big impression - and that’s something we know how to do. So we brainstormed: how could we make this “mural” drop-dead fabulous?

One of our gifted young art directors, Erik Dreyer, came up with a grand solution. How about a world map, etched on glass panels, with continents backlit in glowing relief against a dark blue sea? This approach would bring the whole wall to life - resembling a high-tech war room in a Tom Clancy movie.

Today, big ideas come in new flavors, yet they still spring from the same agency well.




MAKING HISTORY WITH CONSUMER REPORTS

Our newest client, and our latest TV assignment, was to conceive, write and produce an advocacy television spot for Consumer Reports - their first such effort in the brand’s 73-year history. In the heat of the partisan healthcare debate, this fiercely neutral, rigorously scientific outfit had made the decision to come out in support of healthcare reform.

The project involved going to the CR headquarters in New York to shoot their CEO against a highly-designed “green screen” backdrop. With script tweaks happening on the fly, and many CR departments weighing in, we dropped into Yonkers on a Wednesday and were headed back to DC the next day with raw footage ready for post production.

An intense TV media schedule for Washington, DC, was approved for October ’09, heavy on news programs and the Sunday morning political shows. Stay tuned for outcomes.
